Hello! ☺️ We're INNIT English and Math Academy. After ten years of teaching in Sajik, Hwamyeong, Dongnae and Haeundae in Busan, we opened our academy in Palyong-dong, Changwon to support elementary, middle and high school students in English and mathematics.

This is the second part of our thoughts on choosing an academy. If you missed Part 1, here's the link. 💛

In Part 1, we discussed the importance of choosing an academy that fits your child, beyond simply looking for a 'good academy'. That raises another question.

"So, what can INNIT do for my child?"

That's what we'd like to talk about today.

When choosing an academy, its reputation, the number of students, curriculum and support all matter. But we hope you will ask one more question.

"Why is this the right academy for my child?"

Among so many academies, is the one most children attend necessarily the one your child needs?

Unfortunately, other people's choices often have a strong influence on our own. 😮‍💨

"A lot of kids go there."

"All my friends go there too."

"It's a famous academy."

"Everyone sends their children there."

Of course, an academy may be popular for good reasons. Its systems and curriculum may look impressive.

But...

When it comes to your child's education, we think it is worth taking a step back and looking at things objectively.

What works for many children may not be what works for your child.

My experiences at different academies made me think more deeply about this. Working at large, medium-sized and small academies, both franchises and independent schools, in Busan and Changwon taught me about their strengths and effective systems. I also saw things I wished were different.

There are times when

<<< the curriculum takes priority over the child >>>

That is what concerned us.

The headquarters curriculum says we must get this far by the end of the month,

finish this textbook at this stage and move straight on to the next one,

and then... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Keeping up with the planned schedule can become more important than how much the child actually understands.

(It is especially disappointing when moving on to the next textbook leads parents to believe that their child has understood everything in the previous one.)

What we learned from so many teaching experiences is that

finishing a textbook
does not always mean the learning has taken place.

That is why INNIT aims to begin a little differently. Of course we have a curriculum, but rather than simply adapting a curriculum to a child, we start by designing the education that child needs.

✅ What is their current level?

✅ What are they doing well?

✅ Where are they getting stuck?

✅ What are their study habits like?

We first look at which direction their studies should take to help them progress.

At INNIT, we start with assessment, rather than a timetable for covering material. Every child learns at a different pace.

☑️ Some children already understand the material well

and need to move ahead a little faster. Others need more time to understand a single concept properly.

☑️ Some children need practice with many problems. Others need to revisit the concepts before they begin solving them.

At INNIT, we want to see each child as an individual learner, with their own pace and potential. We want to do more than fill gaps: we hope to help them solve problems independently, ask questions, reconsider mistakes and keep trying when things get difficult.

Ultimately,

An academy should leave a child with more than a record of completed textbooks. It should help them develop the ability to study independently. To me, that is real ability.

So, what can INNIT do for your child?

1. Assess where your child is now, identify a learning direction, address the areas they need help with, and support them in turning what they learn into real ability.

2. Develop not only their English and mathematics results, but also their overall study habits and ability to learn.

I wanted to offer each child the education they need, beyond the appeal of a famous name or an academy that many others attend.

That is why I started INNIT English and Math Academy.
