Math

Rather than memorising formulas, students understand the principles and structure behind each concept, which is what lets them solve problems on their own.

Three things INNIT’s math classes hold to

  1. Principles and structure first

Understanding principles and structure rather than memorising formulas.

  2. Not stopping at “a careless mistake”

Even for a “careless mistake”, retracing the working to find the condition that was missed.

  3. The missed concept, not just the answer

Never just giving the answer: finding the missed concept together.

What comes after “Why did you get this wrong?”

Two children can miss the same problem and need different work. That is why the reason for a mistake matters more than the mistake itself.

  1. The student says: “It was a careless mistake”.

  2. Instead of moving straight on, we retrace the student’s working.

  3. Looking closely, sometimes it was not the calculation: a condition of the problem was missed.

  4. Then the answer is not more calculation drills: we first revisit how to read the problem.

All consultations are by appointment only. Sending the student’s name, school, grade and subject helps us prepare a faster, more accurate consultation.
